When you are weak

Friday, July 11th, 2008

When you are strong, you look around at the weak and say “Get up!”. When they do not move you cannot understand why.

When you are weak you wonder if you can ever be strong again.

When you are weak you gasp for breath from the unsurmountable weight that is on top of you.

When you are weak you can hear the voices of those standing close by calling for you to get up. You know that you should be able to move, but you cannot.

When you are weak it is easier to simply close your eyes and go to sleep.

When you are strong again, you now know why the weak must be gently and slowly lifted to their feet.

Sleep

Sunday, June 3rd, 2007

Lately I have been hearing doctors talk about how important sleep is, more important than even exercise. The topic has probably come up because there are so many people doing more and more and getting less and less sleep. That certainly is the case in our house at times.

A website that I was introduced to my first year in college is the National Sleep Foundation’s website www.sleepfoundation.org. There is so much stuff here it is amazing and overwhelming. Here is some interesting info.

HERE there is a section that explains why nighttime sleep is important. Not only is it restorative to our whole selves, sleep is a part of our circadian biological clock that is supposed to be in sync with the rising and setting of the sun.

Moms can take a sleep test here.

This video about the Doze family is educational and interesting.

Still not sure if you have sleep issues? Keep a Sleep Diary.

I have discovered that my circadian rhythm is very much off. How is yours?
